Question about Ping/Latency

A question for the dev team: Are there any plans or at least is it on the list to somehow improve latency/ping to the server? With the rise of the new ravencraft server (i don't wanna debate about the feud between all the different servers/communities) the ping might be a big matter in chosing the server.

As far as i am aware EU players currently have a ping of ~60ms, while ravencraft only has ~30ms. It is a noticeable difference. And if Octo wants to stay in the better position between those 2 servers, the ping, as said, is an important factor.

Would be nice if one of the Devs/Admins could comment on this matter, just so we know what we can expect for the future.

Ping is basically a measure of the distance between yourself and the server. So there's not much they can do about that. I connect from the West Coast of Canada and have 185 ping and can play just fine. This game was designed when the norm was 56kb modems. It doesn't require much bandwidth and is very forgiving in regards to ping.

As far as staying in the better position between those two servers, Octo isn't going out and DDOSing their opposition so they'll always be in the better position.

Things can be done, Like relocating the Server having another Provider. I'm simply asking, cuz maybe the current location might be a temporary Thing. Idk.

That raven is the one ddos'ing is from my Point of View at Moment merely a claim without any evidence. (I'm Not taking any Side Here.)

If it is relocated to give *you* better ping, someone else will have *worse* ping. Europe is a pretty big place and the population is spread out.
Sylveria wrote: Sun Aug 30, 2026 8:58 pm another Provider.
Providers generally wouldn't have much impact, at best 1-3ms difference, and they're already going with the most secure provider which I feel is a pretty good priority.

The biggest factor is distance, everything else has very little influence.

No one else benefits from this other than them. The attacks started within 24 hours of their server launching. These aren't small scale attacks either, serious effort is being put into them and that means money. Who stands to benefit from this? One entity. You're correct there is no direct evidence and there never will be due to the nature of these things-- but everything points to them, they are the prime suspect, so it is kind of disrespectful to come in and start bringing them up and talking about how they have better ping. I mean the core of your question doesn't require you to reference them whatsoever.

At this point you're not really argueing rationally anymore.
first: i only brought them up since the entire conversation "octo vs raven" is at the moment practically omnipresent. You read it on world chat, you read it on discords. You read it up in the DDOS threads, ppl claiming "it's raven". and It's compeition that raises concern for me (see point 3).

second: are **you** talking **for** the devs/admins? They can for themselves decide if my question is "disrespectful" or not. So please stop pointing a finger here, like I'm an enemy. Just like back on Turtle, my main interest is the best for the community, not some personal gain. i don't care if I have a few ms less or not, I can play just fine atm (if not for the ddos attacks atm). But i know lots of players who just started and were complaining about the ping and rather changed over there.

My **personal** main concern on this whole matter is the division of the community. When we all were on Turtle, we were under the same banner. But now competition rose, people are fighting, hating, accusing, and i rather wanna have everyone under the same banner again. If Octo wants to stay on top and everyone should gather *here* again, it needs to improve eventually.

And last but not least: you can't answer to my initial question anway, if you're no server admin. So this conversation between is is basically over.

Yes and I'm pretty sure the majority of the community is sick and fucking tired of you people bringing up other servers constantly. Yes, it's competition-- that's why it's disrespectful to bring them up and I don't need an authority figure to confirm that for me. You're being a scum bag. Period. I don't need a devs opinion on the matter. What you are doing is scummy.

Which you are promoting right now by talking about how other servers have better ping, are you stupid?

Which is why you are promoting another server right now? WEIRD. You want everyone under the same banner, but you're talking about how other servers have better ping? WEIRD.

I'm genuinely sorry that you are so low IQ that you don't understand how Ping works after I explained it to you twice. It must be a tough life you live if you can't wrap your head around that.

No, I don't speak for the admins-- but ping is ping and I don't need the admins to explain to you that moving the location while it might be good for you would be bad for others. That's just reality.

And yes the conversation was over the second you started promoting another server-- I am not talking with you, I'm calling you out for being a shitty person and promoting another server while this server is under attack. Fuck you. People are sick and fucking tired of people constantly bringing up Raven. If you don't want vitriol, don't be a prick and advertise for other servers while we're being DDOSed. It's not that difficult.

talking of "low IQ". There's a difference between "promoting" and "talking about" or even just "mentioning". But oh well. I'm wasting my time with this one anyway. So stuck in his narrowminded opinion.. Hope a dev/admin can ellaborate on my question.
As I am no pro on hardware/network stuff. there also might be other plans/solutions to this.

Simple solution to me: the individual called "Defiant" just lands on my ignore list here. (certainly living up to his name - mostly by resisting his brain cells.)

The server was down. It was being DDOSed. People come to the forums and they see you discussing how Raven has better ping. You might not be intending to advertise-- but you're advertising.

It's always been common courtesy on any kind of private server, WoW or otherwise, to not reference specific competition. Compound that with the server being attacked and it's just like, come on.

All that said I'll admit my last comment was definitely a bit over the top with the insults. Sorry about that.
